Cousins: A Jewish Introduction to Islam with Rabba
with Rabba Dr. Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz Shulie Mishkin
In this nine-week series, students will explore the origins and history of Islam, from Muhammad to modern times, and learn about the central beliefs and practices of the faith. During the course we will come across both similarities and differences from Judaism, notably when looking at the Qur’an and at Islamic law (shari’a). Students will gain a greater understanding of the issues dividing the Muslim world today.
Rabba Dr. Lindsey Taylor-Guthartz was ordained by Yeshivat Maharat, New York in 2021. She is a Research Fellow at London School of Jewish Studies, and has taught at the universities of Cambridge, Oxford, King's College London, and Vassar College, NY. She recently published "Challenge and Conformity: The Religious Lives of Orthodox Jewish Women" (2021). She has lectured extensively about Islam and Judaism across the world.
