The Great Ones ( “The Dead Hebrew Poets Society”)
This program is about twelve of the greatest Hebrew poets who laid the foundations to Modern Hebrew Poetry. Those who gave us our language of metaphors, sounds and images. All the way from Bialik to Hanoch Levin. Emil Habibi the Arab Israeli writer and Avraham Sutzkever the great Yiddish poet are part of this series as they are important voices in this poetic tapestry.
We will explore in English the treasures of what we may call by now “The Classics”. We are dedicating two full sessions to each one of these great poets. Discovering their creative sound and rhythm albeit through translation. We will pay attention to their ideas often revolutionary at their time – yet relevant to these days.
In these days of pandemic, we open our sessions to young Israeli musicians who are out of work. Every class includes 10-15 minutes live music – often related to the poets we are studying.
Classes last 75 minutes – followed by open conversation for as long as participants are interested in staying…
Source sheets for each class will be available for downloading a week before each session. All lectures are recorded and will be accessible to all at https://www.rachelkorazim.com/recordedpoetryclasses
