with Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody

Judaism believes that our bodies are gifts that have been given to us by God. We keep them as a pledge knowing that one day we will ultimately return our souls to our Maker. At such times are bodies are then treated respectfully and buried. Yet is Jewish law monolithic when it comes to how we can treat our bodies medically? Is physician assisted suicide always forbidden? Can autopsies ever be performed and if so under what conditions? And where does this leave organ donation? Is donation forbidden, perhaps permissible, perhaps a mitzvah? Join us as we follow one of the world’s foremost authorities on these matters. A three part series that is a deep dive into the subjects of Euthanasia, Autopsies & Organ Donation.

Rabbi Dr. Shlomo Brody is Executive Director of the Halachic Organ Donor Society. He was most recently the co-Dean of the Tikvah Overseas. A columnist for The Jerusalem Post since 2007, Brody’s writings focus on making Jewish texts accessible to broader audiences while applying them to contemporary social and ethical dilemmas.
